I started diving in New York in the seventies as a necessity, to help repair boats.
My training was somewhat lacking at that time. When I moved to Florida ten years
ago, my interest in diving started anew with vigor and passion. I went for retraining
and eventually worked my way up to Instructor. I am now a Course Director for both
recreational and technical divers for NAUI. I have been a dive operation owner since
2006.
For many years before moving to Florida, I owned and ran a utility engineering
company. At this time, in addition to my association with the dive industry, I am
a partner at one of the largest wireless integration companies in the United States.
We have worked with many governmental agencies as well as with industry and private
foundations. We are associated with projects that have turned entire towns into
free WiFi zones to help conquer the digital divide and help students stay in school.
My varied management experience will be an asset to the NAUI board. Additionally
I am or have been a member or office holder of the Sierra Club, NSS-CDS, Rotary
Club, Reef, Orlando Reef Divers, Lions Club and the IEEE. My experience in industry
leadership and my communications /electrical engineering background will enable
me to help NAUI grow in our fast-changing environment.

Position Statement
|
|
|
|
NAUI has come a long way in its fifty years of existence. It is evident that as
times and technology have changed, so must the way information is distributed. The
dive community is now global; thus we need to be able to advance NAUI’s presence
throughout the world to make its members feel that they are a part of the organization,
and that all instructor members understand that NAUI welcomes their input into the
direction we are heading. Although this is the future that NAUI is planning, I understand
from feedback I have received that some of the members feel isolated. Living in
this era of technology, that does not have to be the case. I have worked in the
communications / computer industry for the last 30 years, as well as in the diving
industry. I want to be able to assist NAUI in its continuing efforts to bring the
diving community together through rapid communications using electronic means. I
plan to help with the ongoing transition to E-learning as an option for those who
would like to utilize that method of teaching/learning. In these changing times
we need to work with our members to find additional ways to keep students interested
and involved in being taught the NAUI way.

Answers To The
BOD Election Questions
|
|
|
Question #1.
|
|
|
|
My vision is to help NAUI move into position as a more technology friendly organization.
Increasingly, in recent years, commerce and education is being advanced through
use of the web. I would like to assist NAUI with its e-learning program, which will
help dive shops further their teaching agendas and allow NAUI and the industry to
reach areas that are not in the traditional market. |
|
|
Question #2.
|
|
|
I have been an entrepreneur for many
years. It is essential to be stubborn and tenacious,
and have the ability to compromise. A great deal of self-education and curiosity
about how things work is always required. A path not explored is a missed opportunity.
Not every path is a success, they are a learning experience; sometimes I have had
to locate another path to achieve a goal. Using lessons learned, I have found success
on most of these paths.
|
|
|
Question #3.
|
|
|
During times of uncertainty, a career in any field may be risky. However, along
with risk comes reward. NAUI has always been supportive of its members. The opportunities in the dive industry have never been better than at this moment. The industry is
experiencing a metamorphosis; traditional ways of conducting dive business are being
questioned, a variety of new formulas are being explored. NAUI, since it is owned
by the members, is able to assist people who have recently joined the industry by
making information available to them and informing them about additional options
and ideas for conducting NAUI sanctioned business.
