Brazil Green Diver Action

NAUI Brazilian affiliate Jornada Sub Dive Center in Jundiaí SP is convening volunteer divers for the 19th cleanup of Rio Jundiaí-Mirim, the river that is the main source of water for the whole Jundiaí region.

This year’s action will take place on Sunday, June 2. The event has been held annually since 2000 and involves not only volunteer divers but also members of the local community, mainly students and scouts.

The cleanup is in support of World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5.

The Jornada Sub activity promotes continued environmental education regarding the preservation and sustainable use of water. In the past year, more than 200 volunteers took part in the action, removing a large amount of unwanted material from the riverbed and surrounding areas.

Several official bodies, including the Fire Department, Water Department, City Hall, and Environmental Police also provide support for the event.

Volunteers must sign up in advance to facilitate organization and to receive a free promotional shirt. For more information, contact Jornada Sub Mergulho, 011 4586 5051, moc.b1732262298usada1732262298nroj@1732262298busad1732262298anroj1732262298.br.
