NAUI Advisors From 16 Countries Gather in Europe to Kick Off First Aid Instructor Trainer Workshop Series
Tampa, Fla. (March 27, 2018) – Leaders of the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI Worldwide) convened in The Netherlands on March 20, 2018, to conduct NAUI’s inaugural First Aid Instructor Trainer Workshop (FAITW) with trainers and candidates from 16 different countries.
The FAITW, hosted by Dick and Richard Lucas of NAUI Europe, spanned a two-day period and centered around First Aid skills required for NAUI Instructors to teach and administer NAUI First Aid – Powered by DAN Instructor courses.
The workshop’s focus is on coaching Instructor Trainers (ITs) in the use of training best practices and effectively implementing and organizing NAUI First Aid Instructor Workshops (FAIWs). Upon successful completion of the FAITW, NAUI ITs are authorized to independently conduct FAIWs.
‘This was truly a professional workshop where, in spite of my broad experience, I learned many new things,’ said Antonio Arcucci, NAUI representative of Italy.
In addition to CPR, AED and Emergency Oxygen Administration training, skills covered included applying tourniquets, splinting, control of bleeding, conducting secondary assessments and use of Bag Valve Masks and norepinephrine auto-injectors. Multiple-injury scenarios were also posed to the participants in order for them to assess, treat and evaluate.
The training was administered by NAUI’s Manager of Member Relations, Jim Gunderson, and NAUI Africa Services representative, Quintin de Boer, and included participants from Brazil, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech-Republic, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
‘It was truly an honor and privilege to train such a diverse group of global leaders. These types of international workshops give participants a sense of pride and community that comes with being a member of NAUI,’ said de Boer, co-examiner.
With the conclusion of the training, NAUI members can now expect workshop offerings within and beyond these regions, conducted by these newly designated First Aid Instructor Trainers.
‘NAUI’s expansion of First Aid Instructor and First Aid Instructor Trainer Workshops demonstrates the success of its global expansion of training initiatives, especially those related to leadership-level First Aid training and best practices’ said Gunderson.
These workshops are designed for any NAUI Leader (Assistant Instructor, Skin Diving Instructor, Divemaster, Instructor) who wishes to teach the NAUI First Aid – Powered by DAN courses.
